The next meeting of the Bluegrass Iris Society will be a tour of the extensive iris gardens of James and Lessie Van Hook, in Somerset, Kentucky. On Sunday, May 6, we'll meet at Annette Milch's house at 12:15pm for a brief viewing of her gardens; then we'll head south to the Somerset gardens. We'll be back in time for supper.

Annual Iris Show May 12
Our Iris Show will be Saturday, May 12 at Lexington Green on the lower level next to Joseph Beth Bookstore. To show your irises and enter the show, you must: 1) cut off the iris at ground level, 2) place in a BGIS vase with a wedge to keep the iris straight, 3) groom the iris to remove bugs, fingerprints, spent blooms, and damaged foliage, 4) Fill out a Show Entry Label for each iris
The label should be entered with the following: A) Type of iris (TB, Sib, species, MTB, Black Box, etc.) , B) Name of Iris. C) If Historic you must also provide the year of Introduction, D) 2 address labels, E) have iris on the table before 10:30 AM. Black Boxes are available to display 5 iris blossoms with stems but not stalks in oasis. (Let me know, if you plan to use a black box. I have 3. You will need a paper with the names of the 5 iris.)
Anyone may enter irises in the BGIS Show, but not all awards are available to non-members. The show is open to the public after judging is complete from 1 to 5pm.
Regular Meetings
Our meetings happen bi-monthly on the third Thursday of the month, at the Beaumont Public Library or Tates Creek Public Library in Lexington. Our schedule changes, though, so check back here for updated information!
